Auditions for the High Seas Jazz Vocal Octet

The High Seas Jazz Vocal Octet

The High Seas is a San Francisco-based all woman jazz vocal octet directed by Sandy Cressman and sponsored by the St. Francis Yacht Club.

We're a tight-knit, fun-loving group which performs challenging, original SSAA arrangements of standard and "not so standard" jazz tunes.

We perform both a cappella and accompanied (piano or trio), at numerous Bay Area and St. Francis Yacht Club events.

We rehearse Monday evenings, 7-9 p.m. at the Yacht Club, on the San Francisco Marina.

Positions available are soprano 1, soprano 2, alto 1 and accompanist.

Singers should have a love of jazz, sight reading ability, excellent pitch, stage presence and be able to sing without vibrato.

We're looking for a good blend with the group, vocal and otherwise.

Auditions will be held by appointment in May, until all positions are filled.

To help with preparation, candidates will be provided beforehand with the score and recordings of two tunes they will sing with the group at the audition.

Performance (San Francisco, Redhot & Blue)

Katherine sent this out on Facebook; I thought I'd post it here too. It sounds great!
Here's what she said:

This is Katharine Kendrick, SFGC Laureate 2003. I'm writing because Redhot & Blue, my a cappella group at Yale, is touring to the San Francisco Bay Area this week. I'm the seventh or so Girls Chorus girl to be in this group (Natasha Hoehn, Lisa Bielawa, Kim Sargeant, Hannah Appel, Kelsey Linnett, and more came before me!) and we'd love it if you could come hear the group sing. Redhot & Blue is the oldest coed a cappella group at Yale, and we sing mostly jazz and Broadway arrangements (some arranged by the former SFGC girls!).

We have two public concerts during our stay. The first is at 4:30 pm on March 11th at the Noe Valley Ministry on 1021 Sanchez Street in San Francisco. You can get tickets at the door or online at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/10985. The second concert is more of a cocktail reception at 5:45 on March 19th at the University Club on 800 Powell St, San Francisco. You can buy tickets at the door or ahead of time at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/11519. I hope to see you at one of the events, and feel free to email me if you have any questions: Katharine.kendrick@yale.edu.
